Name: Jodi Donnell

Started as: Deputy Nursery Manager at Milton Keynes Central

Job title now: Nursery Manager

Nursery: Ashbourne Day Nurseries at Millway

Career progression:

“I started working form Ashbourne Day Nurseries in October 2019.

My favourite things about working here are the great support that we as managers receive from our cluster manager and those people in the wider company.

Working with the children is definitely rewarding. Most children have a natural curiosity and a sense of wonder and enthusiasm for play and learning. Also many of the families rely on childcare so they can go to work, so they entrust you with their children. For me I see that as a huge privilege, I get to play a role in children’s lives during their vital first five years.

Managing staff at a nursery is not an easy job. As a manager not only do you have to nurture and support your team, but you have to find the time to do it in between the thousand other pressing tasks on your to-do list. The big thing for me is what motivates my team to be exceptional and I find, more than anything it is recognition, which naturally flows into getting the best out of your staff and creating a truly special workforce.”

Started as: Early Years Practitioner

Job title now: Room Leader

Nursery: Ashbourne Day Nurseries at Fenny Stratford

Career progression:

“I have worked for Ashbourne Day Nurseries for almost two years and have recently been promoted to a Room Leader position.

My favourite thing about working at Ashbourne Day Nurseries is the ability to work alongside the leadership team when running the nursery and being able to input ideas.

I also enjoy getting involved with all the activities surrounding the different cultural celebrations that the nursery includes within it’s learning opportunities for the children.

I love working with children because I like to help them develop and flourish throughout their early years and I love the sense of achievement I get when the children are happy and progressing.”
