About our Wing nursery
Our Wing nursery and pre-school is warm and friendly surrounded by beautiful fields and a large outdoor space. It is conveniently located within the grounds of the Overstone School and adjacent to the children’s centre. Our nursery is situated near a farm and we are sometimes able to see cows, sheep, and horses.
As we are based in a village, we regularly take our children on walks through the village or go to the nearby park for snacks. Although we are in a rural location, we are close to a few towns; Aylesbury, Leighton Buzzard and Wingrave.
Our nursery caters for babies from 3 months to children of school age. We have three rooms, a baby den, a toddler room, and our pre-school. Each of our rooms has access to our outside areas and our pre-school children have their own garden. Every child has a key person that will monitor their development and do regular assessments. Observations are uploaded onto an online learning journal each week; this allows our parents to see what their child has been up to. We pride ourselves on building strong relationships with our parents, and work on settling in the children to our nursery on an individual needs’ basis.
In all three of our rooms we use a curiosity approach to support children with their education, social skills, and preparation for school. Being a curiosity nursery, the aim is to minimise the use of plastic and focus on natural resources and real-life objects. Children learn best from real experiences and can gain a greater understanding of weight, shape and space. We encourage our children to use their imagination when they are playing with the resources as this develops their play.
We are also lucky enough to have a chef on-site who prepares all our fresh and healthy snacks and lunches every day. All the food provided is included within the nursery fee.
A typical day at nursery would involve lots of time outside – whether it is a walk around the village or making mud pies in our lovely mud kitchen. Children learn best from real experiences of textures, smells etc. and we find the best place to experience all this is the outside.
We sing lots of nursery rhymes, but also have quiet times for reading books as well as free play and structured activities to develop our children’s next steps. We try to make everyday fun and provide lots of opportunities to learn. Activities are planned around our children’s interests so they are engaged and learning along the way.
We offer a variety of messy activities; water play, sand play, mud kitchens, making perfume, shaving foam and sensory bags.
In our large outside area we have a sensory kitchen, a climbing frame, a planting area and a variety of different outdoor toys and resources.
Once a week, we take the children for a walk outside for a range of exciting Forest School activities. The Forest School is an inspirational process that offers all our children regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland or natural environment with trees.

We work in partnership with the community and regularly involve our children with community activities such as carol singing for the retirement home next door each Christmas and visiting the local church. We also post Christmas letters at the local post office each year.
