Learning about the seasons
This month we have been learning about seasons and change.
We have been reading our season book, looking at the blossom on the trees and at the fresh leaves growing.
We created an interest table, adding some blossom and leaves for the children to use their senses to experience the textures and different smells. We also added some insects for the children to find and count and they used a checklist to mark their findings.
This gave the children opportunity to communicate to each other about what they observed, asking questions and showing care and concern for the environment.
World Book Day
To celebrate World Book Day on 4th March we created an invitation to play to extend the children’s learning around their favourite books.
This provided the children with the opportunity to re-tell the stories in their own way using their senses and lots of imaginative play.
We also gifted each of the children a book to enjoy at home as the main aim of World Book Day is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading.
“The more you read the more things you will know. The more that you learn the more places you’ll go”
Mother's Day crafts
The children have enjoyed creating some wonderful Mother’s day crafts to share with their loved ones.
We also discussed why we celebrate Mother’s day explaining to the children that Mothering Sunday, sometimes known as Mother’s Day, is held on the fourth Sunday of Lent. It is exactly three weeks before Easter Sunday and usually falls in the second half of March or early April and Mother’s Day is now a day to honour mothers and other mother figures.
