Milton Keynes Central April Nursery News

What we've been up to...

Staffing

We would like to wish a warm welcome to Helene and Nicoleta.

Helene holds a childcare level 3 qualification and will be based in Toddlers as the room lead.

Nicoleta holds a Qualified Teaching Status (QTS) level 6 qualification and will be Bank staff.

Easter activities

For Easter the children enjoyed lots of Easter-themed learning opportunities.

We set up an invitation to play tuff tray, allowing the opportunity for the children to demonstrate friendly behaviour and initiate conversations playing alongside each other.

Adding numbers to make learning fun, encouraging counting, and using numbers spontaneously in play.

This also gives the children an opening to be able to ask questions about the things they observe while using their imagination to create great storylines.

Earth Day

To celebrate Earth Day on 22nd April 2021, we set out invitations to play which increased the children’s understanding of the world around us.

The children used natural loose parts, recycled materials for junk modelling, art and crafts to create pictures and also, an insect area for the children to learn the importance of insects on earth.

We have also been singing and had group talks about what we can do to help the environment.

Phonics

We continue to introduce letter sound of the week.
The children can use phonics knowledge to “sound out” words.

Children learn to recognise how sounds are represented alphabetically and identify some letter sounds, symbols, characters, and signs.

Phonics is essential for children to become successful readers, spellers and writers in the early years of schooling and beyond.

St. George's Day

We celebrated St. George’s Day on 23rd April each year. It is a great for the children to enjoy and learn about some of England’s customs and traditions, and to roleplay as knights in castles with dragons!

Transitioning to school

We will be working closely with the pre-school parents to find out where their child will be attending school in September.

In the upcoming months preparing the children for the smooth transition to school.
